During a recent podcast, STC was asked to comment on Ray Martinez’s tenure as the FMCSA Administrator. The interviewer asked if his legacy would be tied to more flexible HOS rules, a change process he started while leading FMCSA. While that may be part of his legacy, STC believes he will be remembered and appreciated by many for:
- His strong desire to engage and collaborate with all stakeholders
- His willingness to travel far and wide to communicate the “whats and whys” of
FMCSA’s agenda - His strong leadership skills,
- And, to a lesser degree, but important to STC, his open-door meeting policy.
Future FMCSA Administrators, no matter the party affiliation, would do well to follow the “collaboration and open communication” path set by Administrator Martinez.
