On Friday, November 12, STC Co-Director P. Sean Garney presented to the South Carolina Trucking Association’s Fall Management Conference. The presentation discussed the benefits and drawbacks to carrier developed crash preventability review and determination programs. Garney also detailed the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Crash Preventability Determination program which allows carriers to submit for review crashes it feels should be labeled not-preventable and therefore removed from the calculation of its Crash Indicator BASIC score. To be eligible, crashes must meet specific criteria based on the circumstances of the crash as documented by the police accident report and other available evidence.
