According to NHTSA’s most recent data, more than 3,000 people per year are killed due to distracted driving, and distracted car drivers are one of the biggest safety challenges for truck drivers. According to P. Sean Garney, co-director of Scopelitis Transportation Consulting, compared to passenger drivers, the trucking industry is safer and has improved in almost every distraction-related category. Garney also went on to say it is essential to educate the next generation of truck drivers on these distraction-related issues including teaching them to be defensive and understanding where the risks lay.
