The story was an outgrowth of a recent conclusion by the National Transportation Safety Board that a fatal 2018 crash was, in part, the result of the lack of a “robust medical certification evaluation process” which failed to identify a driver with untreated obstructive sleep apnea who caused a several vehicle pile-up after becoming fatigued on the job.
