P. Sean Garney, VP of Scopelitis Transportation Consulting, was recently asked by Transport Topics to comment on new numbers published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration showing the rising number of drivers listed as disqualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. While the absolute number appears to be rising, Garney pointed out that the number as a percentage of the total number of disqualified drivers is dropping but also expressed concern for the long term prospects of drivers terminated by their motor carrier because of a testing violation.
