Yesterday, the Canadian Minister of Transport announced that any carriers operating in Canada after June 12 (the implementation date of the new Canadian Hours of Service rules) who are caught without a Transport Canada-certified ELD will not be penalized. This comes on the heels of the Quebec Automobile Insurance Corporation, the provincial agency that oversees on road commercial vehicle enforcement, announcing that the use of of ELDs in Quebec will not be mandatory as of June 12. Transport Canada is currently working with the provinces and territories to develop a unified enforcement strategy. Stay tuned for more updates.
